BAKER CITY - Oregon Republican gubernatorial candidate Kevin Mannix was officially endorsed Aug. 13 by Baker County Sheriff Troy Hale.

"I really appreciate Kevin Mannix's law enforcement efforts," Hale said. "He's behind public safety 100 percent - and that's our business."

Mannix is widely-regarded as one of Oregon's top crime fighters because of his many legislative reforms - including mandatory minimum sentences for violent criminals, tough new anti-stalking laws and crime victims' rights.

"I especially like Measure 11," Hale added. "It's been a very effective law enforcement tool."

Hale said he and Mannix have discussed the possibility of establishing a statewide public safety communications system, noting that many communication systems currently in use are not compatible with one another.

Mannix said he is pleased and humbled by Sheriff Hale's endorsement and remains committed to increasing the level of public safety in Oregon.
