Mrs. Mecham was born March 11, 1938, in Los Angeles, Calif. Her parents came to Mt. Vernon for a short time while she was in grade school, and returned to Mt. Vernon when she was a junior in high school. As a child, she worked in her parent's restaurants, including the one built on the corner of highways 26 and 395 in Mt. Vernon.

Vernon, but acted as a chaperone, carried sports equipment in her own vehicle, was the drill team advisor, and kept the basketball score book. She always had a smile for everyone. Mrs. Mecham retired in 1997, after working for the school for 26 years.
Mrs. Mecham was also the Parent-Teacher Association president for many years, and, with help from several other long time Mt. Vernon residents, including her husband and daughter, and with the help of many local businesses, made sure that the annual Easter Egg Hunt was held, as well as the annual awards banquet for grade and high school athletes. Mrs. Mecham was also a member of Epsilon Sigma Alpha sorority for years, taking part in the many activities ESA was involved in, including the annual Grant County Fair and Rodeo.
