Michelle Rae Powers of Mt. Vernon, who planned to graduate from alternative school in June and attend culinary school, died Jan. 16, 2006, in a car accident. She was 18.

A memorial service was held Jan. 21, 2006, in the Carey Foster Hall at the Crook County Fairgrounds in Prineville.

Miss Powers was born Nov. 19, 1987, in McMinnville to Raymond and Tina (Franklin) Powers. She attended Grant County Alternative Education School and was to be a graduate in June 2006. She planned to attend culinary school next year.

She was engaged to Jeremy Majors of Mt. Vernon.

Miss Powers enjoyed cooking, spending time with friends, dancing, shopping, puzzles and bowling. She received many awards in soccer and softball.

She is survived by her mother and step-father, Tina and Gordon Griffin of Prairie City; father and step-mother Ray and Tami Powers of McMinnville; sister, Stephanie Brown and her husband, Toby, and their daughter, Emma, of Prairie City; step-brothers, Eric and Evan VanOtten; and step-sisters, Emily and Erin VanOtten, all of McMinnville; and fiance, Jeremy Majors of Mt. Vernon.

Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one's choice through Driskill Memorial Chapel, 241 South Canyon Blvd., John Day, OR 97845.
