JOHN DAY – A bowling date night was a hit for 35 boys and their moms or mom figures at Nugget Lanes.

The March 14 event, sponsored by John Day-Canyon City Parks and Recreation, featured unlimited bowling with the disco ball spinning, games of pool and pizza and snacks for dinner.

The boys ranging from grades 3-8 also had their photo taken with their “dates” by Tanni Wenger.

Rashanna Workman won a moms drawing for a bouquet of flowers, and fun prizes such as board games and mini Nerf footballs were given out to the boys.

“The kids all had a great time playing pool and bowling,” said parks and rec program manager Kim Ward. “The moms enjoyed bowling and spending time with the boys and even finding time to relax and visit with other mothers.”

The effort was coordinated with Grant and Jamie Benton, owners of the bowling alley.

“Without their generosity and help it would not have been as much fun and as successful,” Ward said. “This definitely is an event that we will do again in the future.”
