JOHN DAY – The Grant County Fairgrounds launched a new rodeo and fair year last weekend with the coronation of Queen Sierra Burton.

Burton, who was a rodeo princess the past year, took on the tiara at a coronation dinner held Friday, Oct. 22, at Trowbridge Pavilion.

The dinner capped a busy year for the past fair and rodeo court, who were on hand with their families. In addition to Burton, the court included Queen Vanessa Hamsher and Princess Amanda Branstetter.

The event also recognized the new grand marshals for next year’s events, Rusty and Peggy Clark. Longtime volunteers for the fair, the Clarks have a long history of involvement in the fair, the early jackpot rodeos and horse races, and were advisors to fair and rodeo courts.

They will be feted at the 2011 Grant County Fair Parade.

Those attending the dinner also gave a round of applause for two longtime Fair Board members who will end their tenure in January: Sharon Livingston and Larry Pierce.
