PENDLETON - Temperatures at John Day averaged slightly colder than normal during the month of December, according to preliminary data received by NOAA's National Weather Service in Pendleton.

The average temperature was 31.6 degrees, or .5 degrees below normal. High temperatures averaged 43.8 degrees, 2.1 degrees above normal. The highest was 54 degrees on Dec. 29. Low temperatures averaged 19.4 degrees, 3 degrees below normal. The lowest was 7 degrees, on Dec. 22.

There were 28 days with the low temperature below 32 degrees.

Precipitation totaled 0.52 inches during Decembe, or 0.72 inches below normal. Measurable precipitation - at least .01 inch - was received on 5 days with the heaviest, 0.28 inches reported on Dec. 30.

The outlook for January from NOAA's Climate Prediction Center calls for below-normal temperatures and above-normal precipitation. Normal highs for John Day during January are 42.5 degrees and normal lows are 23.5 degrees. The 30-year normal for precipitation is 0.98 inches.
