Kathryn B. Brown is the health care writer for the East Oregonian Publishing Company. She completed her bachelor of science in nursing degree at the University of San Francisco, and has a master's degree in nursing from Oregon Health Sciences University. She is licensed in Oregon as a registered nurse and a family nurse practitioner, and is certified by the American Nurses Credentialing Center. During her career in nursing, she has worked in a hospital in medical, oncology and AIDS units, as a telephone advice nurse in an internal medicine clinic, at the University of Oregon Student Health Center and at a travel clinic giving immunizations, malaria prophylaxis and advice to overseas travelers. She recently worked for two years as the Peace Corps Medical Officer in Togo, West Africa where she cared for Peace Corps Volunteers and the American Embassy staff.

Her areas of special interest and expertise are immunizations and travel medicine, infectious disease, alcoholism and drug abuse, and the connections between diet, exercise and health. Her goal is to interpret complex medical and scientific information to help readers understand and apply relevant information to their lives in order to optimize their health.

The East Oregonian Publishing Company is a family-owned group of six newspapers published in Oregon and Washington: the East Oregonian, The Daily Astorian, Capital Press, Chinook Observer, Wallowa County Chieftain, and Blue Mountain Eagle.
