Obituaries: Irene M. Huntington-Jensen

Irene M. Huntington-Jensen, 80, of Bend, died May 24, 2009 at the Hospice House of Bend. A graveside service was held May 29 at Canyon City Cemetery with Retired Rev. Austin Cribban officiating.

Mrs. Huntington-Jensen was born Sept. 2, 1928 in Portland to Frank and May (Noyes) Lloyd. Following high school graduation in Portland, she worked for the U.S. Forestry Service as a civil service technician, retiring in 1990.

In 1944, she married Tom Huntington in Fossil. After he passed away, she married Bill Jensen in John Day in 1984.

She enjoyed shopping, dining out, visiting with family and friends, collecting bells and head vases, and going to garage sales and antique shops.

She was affiliated with the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Catholic Daughters of the Americas, St. Elizabeth Catholic Parish in John Day where she was the secretary for several years, Mt. Vernon and Canyon City Council Women, a den mother for the Boy Scouts, and a '62 Days participant.

Her accomplishment was raising her children. She was also very civic minded in both Canyon City and Mt. Vernon. She helped establish the park in Canyon City and worked to bring in a reliable sourse of water to Mt. Vernon. She was a devout Catholic, an easy listener, sincere and a great friend to many.

Survivors include her daughters, Margaret Williams of Eugene and Mary Jiles of Spokane, Wash.; sons, Tom Huntington of Bend and Jim Huntington of Portland; 14 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Tom Huntington; her second husband, Bill Jensen; and two sons, John Huntington and Tom Huntington Jr.
