THE DALLES - William "Bill" Arbogast, 85, of Dale, died Friday, March 5, 2010, at a care facility in The Dalles, following a lengthy illness. Graveside funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 10, at Olney Cemetery in Pendleton.
Mr. Arbogast was born Aug. 26, 1924, in Ritter, to Elmer L. and Hazel (Balance) Arbogast. He was raised in Ritter and Dale, and attended school in Dale.
He worked on his father's farm after school and evenings, tending cattle, raising grain and hay. He also broke horses for riding and driving.
In 1943, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served during World War II. He was honorably discharged in April 1946.
On Nov. 8, 1946, he married Charlotte "Bobbie" Curtis in Walla Walla, Wash.
They moved to Dale where they owned and operated the Dale Store/Bill's Garage and Saw Shop, and where they raised two daughters.
He was a member of the Oregon Lions and the Fraternal Order of the Elks. He loved hunting and fishing.
Survivors include his daughters, Dusty Harris of Dale and Carol Arbogast of Portland; sister, Lila Mitchell of Hood River; one grandchild; two great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 42 years, Bobbie Arbogast in April 1989; his parents, Elmer and Hazel Arbogast; and two brothers, Norman "Skinny" Arbogast and Leonard "Tuffy" Arbogast.
