Grace Isobel Duncan died on April 17, 2007, in Portland. She was 89.
A memorial service was held on April 21, 2007, at Regency Park Assisted Living in Portland.
Mrs. Duncan was born on March 22, 1918, in Hardman to Hollie and Dillie Mae Leathers. She grew up in Grant County with no electricity, telephones or running water. From the time she was 5 years old, she rode a horse five miles to school each day. She was the youngest of five boys and four girls.
In 1941, she married James T. Duncan of Huntsville, Ala. Immediately after their marriage they moved to Warrenton. In 1943, she gave birth to a daughter, Dvenna Avonne (Dee). Mr. Duncan was drafted into the service and sent to Germany. Mrs. Duncan and her daughter moved back to Grant County to be with her family.
Mr. Duncan was discharged from the service in 1945, and the family moved to Portland, so that he could attend law school. Upon graduation, he set up a law practice that lasted for 43 years. Mrs. Duncan helped in the office when she wasn't being a room mother for her daughter's classroom or watching her daughter roller skate.
Mrs. Duncan served on the guardian council at Bethel #67 and was an alumna initiate of Zeta Tau Alpha.
She is survived by her husband of 66 years, James; daughter, Dvenna Carlson, and her husband, Greg, of Beaverton; grandson, Christopher, who is attending school in Rochester, N.Y.; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, five brothers and three sisters.
