Selma "Sally" Fleming, a former John Day resident, died March 21, 2007. She was 79.
A service was held on March 26, 2007, in Pelican Rapids, Minn.
Mrs. Fleming was born on Jan. 6, 1928, in Mount Vernon, S.D. to Arthur and Wilma (Rorhig) Larson. In 1945, she moved to New York Mills, Minn., teaching for many years in rural schools around Otter Tail County. She married Lawrence Fleming on May 26, 1946. They lived in Oregon from 1969 to 1989. Mrs. Fleming received an education degree from Oregon State University in Eugene. She was a member of the sorority, Delta Kama Gamma. She taught fifth-grade and was head librarian in John Day.
Mrs. Fleming enjoyed playing cards, board games, sewing and needlework. She was a member of the First Congregational Church in Pelican Rapids, Minn.
She is survived by her son, Terry Fleming, of Burns; daughters, Linda Sellman, of Fergus Falls, Minn.; and Peggy Honrud, of Erhard, Minn.; sister, Marjorie Gibson, of Minneapolis, Minn.; brother, Howard (Pat) Larson, of Minneapolis, Minn.; 15 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lawrence; daughter, Susan; great-granddaughter, Stephanie; and brother, Robert.
