O.A. Chaney, founder of Chaney's Paving & Asphalt Company, died June 27 in Mountain Home, Ark. He was 71.

Mr. Chaney was born Aug. 31, 1933, in Piney Creek, Mo. to Noah Abraham and Dola Beulah (Swearingen) Chaney.

Mr. Chaney left Missouri in 1951 after graduating from Aurora High School and went to the Northwest. He entered the construction business and worked for the L.W. Vail Company for 27 years. In 1979, he formed his own paving business and retired in 1996.

Mr. Chaney was an avid outdoorsman who loved to fish and hunt.

He is survived by his companion, Joyce Sullivan of Lead Hill, Ark.; son Bruce Chaney of Kennewick, Wash.; daughter Jeanne Chinery of Kennewick, Wash.; brothers Norman Chaney of Cassville, Mo., Noah "Junior" Chaney of Republic, Mo. and Robert "Bob" Chaney of Vancouver, Wash.; sister Sue Fare of Cassville, Mo.; four grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son Jerry; brothers Roy and Ulane; and sister Bonnie Boden.

A visitation was held June 30.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Imus Ranch for Kids With Cancer, c/o WFAN, 3412 36th Street, Astoria, New York 11106.
