Another birthday Wednesday had only two October birthday ladies - Sarolta Sperry and Nadine Bradley. The early birds preparing the tables were Amos Cardwell, Marvin Casebeer, Ottis Garrett, Buzz Harris and Jim Howard. Later Buzz delivered six meals and one was picked up. Eula Thompson greeted 49 who came. Marvin led the flag salute and Ruth Johns gave the blessing.
A first-timer was Ben Luethe, Jr., from Mt. Vernon. Come again.
It was announced that tonight there is a Prairie City Council meeting at the grange hall.
We had a video after lunch on rip-offs of seniors, especially. We all need to be aware of these fast-talkers out to get your money - even money you do not have. The theme could be, "Greed is Good." Baloney! So beware, even if not a senior citizen.
Today the servers were Lana Abarr, Ruth Casebeer, Pam Howard and Sarolta Sperry who served fried (baked) chicken, whole corn, mixed green salad, rolls, mashed potatoes and light gravy. The chocolate cake with chocolate frosting with candy corn on top and vanilla ice cream topped off the meal for six tables. To me the candy corn addition was good, as it cut the all-chocolate taste. The birthday table had their angel food cake with white frosting and ice cream. Thanks Gene and Edna for a delicious meal.
Nadine Bradley of Long Creek, won the birthday table certificate from Huffman's. Other winners were: Amos Cardwell, Mort's Barber Shop; Pearl Coombs, Strawberry Salon; Ed Griffin, Lunch Box Deli; and Charles Oliver, Prairie Drug and Hardware.
Lorna Askew and Trish Coburn brought from the nursing home: Elva Lloyd, Mildred Benson, Mabel Humble and Ruth White.
The cleanup was interrupted for some by the video, but I am sure Marvin, Ottis and Del got the hall cleaned. Others helping that I know of were: Bill Palmer with silverware pre-wash, Vivian Rookstool was at Louise's job and the four servers, Helen C. and Buzz helping me. Oh, Eula T., got talked into helping servers.
