It was nice to greet two friends from Long Creek this morning, who said they came through the hills which were so beautiful and also saw a black bear. I've been amazed at how green it is. Take time to get out and see for yourself.
Work started early at the hall on June 4, with Amos Cardwell, Clayton Curtis, Buzz Harris, Carl Johns and Marvin Casebeer setting the tables and putting out the pretty flowers. Later, Harris delivered 11 home meals.
Ruth Johns greeted the 48 diners. Casebeer led the flag salute, and Cardwell gave the blessing.
Carla Anderson introduced Pamela Nelson, a traveling administrator for the Sunwest Corporation; Anderson announced that she will be retiring as of June 30.
Drawings netted the following winners: Lyle McIver, haircut at Mort's; Carl Johns, certificate for Lunch Box Deli; Helen Cardwell, certificate for Branding Iron Cafe; and Harris, $5 from Prairie Drug and Hardware. Calson Sukslorf, Slim Williams, Virginia Hymer, Sally Herburger, accompanied by Lorna Ashmead, and Shawna Morin came from Blue Mountain Nursing Home.
Serving was the American Legion Auxiliary, including Louise LaBaugh, Barbara Reynolds, Gladys Erwin and Vivian Rookstool. They served spaghetti and meat sauce, grilled french bread, lettuce salad and carrot cake and all the usual coffee, tea, milk and juice.
Helping with the clean-up were Hank and Naomi Goslin, Buzz and Marjorie Harris, Carl Johns, Cleo Dunten, Ottis Garrett and Casebeer. The public is invited to join the seniors at noon Wednesday.
