GRESHAM - The Grant Union dance team took its first road trip of the year last week.

The Prospectors went to Gresham to dance in the Gresham dance competition Saturday, Jan. 31. They finished in third place at the competition out of three schools in their division. However, in dance the divisions are based on team size rather than school size. Grant Union was competing against 4A schools during the competition.

The Pros' scores ranged in the 50s slightly below the minimum score of 60 they will need to qualify for State Finals in March which are held in Portland.

Grant Union coach Shannon Woodcock said the team will continue to learn and polish their show entitled "Heist" which is based on the movie "The Italian Job." The team won't be performing at this week's basketball games in order to put more time into its show.

"We did really well," Woodcock said. "We have a tough show. They have to dance well and be in character. There's more involved than some shows. Half the team are playing thieves and the other half is playing the gold the thieves are after."

Woodcock said she hopes the team can score in the 60's when they compete in Molalla Saturday, February 14.
