Pros tangle with 3A, Wapiti foes

JOHN DAY - The Grant Union High School volleyball team had a busy week, playing four matches against non-league and league opponents.

The Prospectors began on Thursday, Sept. 25, dropping a three-game, non-league match to Class 3-A state-ranked Burns.

The strong Burns squad came away with easy 25-13, 25-14, 25-16 victories over the Prospectors.

Returning to Wapiti League play on Friday, Sept. 26, the Prospectors had no trouble defeating Elgin in three games, 25-17, 25-19, 25-12.

On Saturday, Sept. 27, Grant Union once again faced Class 3-A opponents, squaring off against Riverside and Mac-Hi from the Greater Oregon League.

In the first match against Riverside, the Prospectors were the easy winners in three games by the scores of 25-12, 25-11 and 25-9.

In the final match of the doubleheader, the Prospectors defeated the Pioneers convincingly 25-8, 25-8, 25-17.

The wins give Grant Union a season record of 5-5 and 3-0 in the Wapiti League.

The Prospectors return to Wapiti League play on Friday, Oct. 3, at Imbler. Time of the match has yet to be determined.
