JOHN DAY - The Ranch Rodeo returned to the Grant County Fairgrounds arena on Saturday and Sunday Oct. 11-12 with a total of five four-man teams entered in the competition.
The teams participated in five events over the course of two days, including ranch horse class, team branding, bronc riding, muley roping and horse roping.
Buckles were awarded to the top finishers in each event and prize money awarded to the overall top three teams.
Results of the events:
• Ranch horse class - 1. King Team; 2. Lefty and the Boys; 3. Slick Horns.
• Team branding - 1. Harney County Boys; 2. King Team; 3. Slick Horns.
• Bronc riding - 1. King Team; 2. Harney County Boys; 3. Slick Horns.
• Muley Roping - 1. Harney County Boys; 2. Lefty and the Boys; 3. Slick Horns.
• Horse roping - 1. Harney County Boys.
• Overall Winners - 1. Harney County Boys; 2. Slick Horns; 3. King Team.
The Livingston Team from Long Creek was the other team competing in the events.
A Calcutta was held just prior to the beginning of the event in which the teams were auctioned off to the highest bidders. Individuals bought teams in hopes that a team would place in the top three and win the bidders a check.
Results of the Calcutta were: 1. Katie Baltzor, 2. Barbara McVey, 3. Cliff Marsh.
