JOHN DAY - The Grant County Fairgrounds is seeking new members for the rodeo committee and to fill a vacancy on the fair board.

Prospective members should apply at the Grant County Fair Office by Monday, Feb. 20.

The Rodeo Committee helps organize and conduct the rodeo every August, and advises the Fair Board on rodeo-related matters. The Fair Board recently adopted a strategic plan that calls for strengthening the rodeo, improving attendance, and improving rodeo facilities.

The committee meets six to eight times a year, and also provides crucial volunteer time during the rodeo.

The Rodeo Committee needs members who have experience with rodeos and ranching and individuals interested in helping run the rodeo.

Current committee members include Larry Pierce, chairman; John Morris, Charlene Morris, and Austin Rawlins.

The Fair Board, appointed by the Grant County Court, is responsible for operations of the fairgrounds and the annual county fair in August.

The ideal candidate will be a dynamic, can-do person, able to assist in implementing the fairgrounds new strategic plan, help with volunteer service at fairgrounds-sponsored events and volunteer during fair time.

It's an opportunity for a local citizen to make an impact on the fairgrounds and the community.

The board meets monthly on the second Monday, and additionally as needed.

For more information about both groups, call Fairgrounds Manager Mary Weaver at 541-575-1900.
