JOHN DAY – Police are still searching for a white Toyota Tacoma pickup taken from Chester's Thriftway parking lot around 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 17.

The truck, belonging to Bill Hueckman of John Day, has Oregon license plate number SGB894.

The vehicle is a single cab, short box pickup with damage to the front driver’s side of the truck, a dented tailgate, a diamond-plated truck box and has a power saw in the back.

The suspect, a man from the Eugene area, is described as being in his 30s, 6-foot, stocky build with dark hair and dark complexion, and was last seen wearing shorts.

Observers said he turned east onto West Main Street/Highway 26 from Thriftway’s parking lot.

Local law enforcement responded to the incident and John Day Dispatch immediately called surrounding counties notifying them of the incident; they also sent a teletype to a broader area.

John Day police said they believe the man was a passenger of a vehicle which an officer stopped near McDonald’s restaurant. When police arrested the woman driver, the man fled and took the pickup.

The woman faces charges of providing false information to a police officer and felony possession of methamphetamine as well as some violations.

Anyone with information in the case should call law enforcement, 541-575-0030.
