JOHN DAY – Twelve local students faced competitors at the Feb. 6 Blue Mountain Regional Future Business Leaders of America Conference.

Ten of the 12 Grant Union Junior-Senior High students will now compete at the April 10-12 State Leadership Conference in Portland. Their advisor is Grant Union teacher Guy Johnson.

During the awards ceremony at the regional event, held at Eastern Oregon University in La Grande, Grant Union freshman Clay Johnson played the national anthem on his fiddle in front of a crowd of around 500 students.

Several from Grant Union qualified in both individual and team events.

Team events

Hospitality management: Hannah Deming, Dylan Powell and Shiranne Carter; 1st place.

Entrepreneurship: Amy Lallatin and Kelsey Long; 5th.

Management Decision Making: Clay Johnson, Trejan Speth and Blake Stone; 6th.

Individual events

Business math: Blake Stone, 1st.

Cyber security: Dylan Powell, 1st.

Help desk: Kelsey Long, 2nd; Sam Bentz, 3rd; Hannah Deming, 6th.

Intro to Parli Pro: MaKenna Adair, 3rd.

Personal finance: Amy Lallatin, 4th.
