Shannon Lee Zimmerlee Halvorson, 20, of Prineville died on Friday, June 13, in Corvallis after a fatal head injury while in Albany attending a conference for the Volunteer Fire Fighters Association.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, June 21, at the First Assembly of God Church and the Crook County Christian School in Prineville. Visitation was June 18, 19, and 20 at the Prineville Funeral Home.

She was born on Aug. 12, 1982, in La Grande to Richard and Heidi (Buce) Zimmerlee. She lived in Rome, Hermiston and Monument in her earlier years where her parents farmed. Her family settled in Terrebonne where she spent her youth. She was home-schooled until the fifth grade at which time she attended Crook County Christian School. She attended Central Oregon Community College where she earned her medical assisting certificate. Shannon was employed at Pioneer Health Care Center and had worked for Central Oregon Family Medical Clinic. In 1999, Shannon married Jeff Halvorson.

Mrs. Halvorson was a volunteer at the Prineville Fire Department, Deschutes County Shots for Tots, Crook County blood drive and 4-H Equestrian Club. She had also completed her wildland firefighter training.

Her favorite retreat was to visit her parents on Rudio Mountain, and her true love was the ocean. Her hobbies were snowboarding, horses, fishing, boating and cooking.

Mrs. Halvorson was a devoted mother of a 3-year-old son, Garrett Scott and also is survived by her husband, Jeff Halvorson; mother, Heidi; stepfather, Mike McCrary of Anchorage, Alaska; father, Richard Zimmerlee of Terrebonne; brother, Jamie Zimmerlee of John Day; grandmother, Barbara J. Weatherford Buce of Seattle, Wash.; grandparents James and Vivian Zimmerlee of Prineville; several aunts, uncles, cousins and special friends.

Arrangements were under the direction of the Prineville Funeral Home.
