CANYON CITY - Grant County Sheriff Glenn Palmer received approval to hire a new deputy to fill a temporary full-time position.

The new hiree will replace Eric Timko who is returning to the Oregon State Police. Timko was laid off due to state budget constraints earlier in the year, and has been working for the Grant County Sheriff's Department as a temporary replacement for Jason Rehling, who was severely wounded during a May 2 shooting in Long Creek.
