JOHN DAY - It was standing room only for the 10th annual Holiday Showcase Dec. 7 and 8 at Grant Union High School. Over 50 dancers performed "A New York City Christmas."
"We had an excellent turnout. It was fun," said Shannon Woodcock, dance teacher. "It's really nice to see the community support the Holiday Showcase."
Little Singers started the entertainment when they sang several Christmas songs. Music teacher Mrs. Kienzel directed the songbirds, while Jo Stiner played the piano.
The highlight of the night for many in the audience were the performances by the younger dancers. "Santa Baby," performed by the kindergarten through third-grade group, was among the night's favorites.
Woodcock has taught dance for the past ten years. She commented on how she enjoyed watching her students skill levels jump from year to year.
She also commented on how pleased she was with the work ethics of her junior high and high school team. She picked one junior high or high school dancer to choreograph and teach their dance to their assigned group. Laci Powell, Sabrina Buckhaults and Ashleigh Sampley choreographed three of the night's performances.
"I didn't have to do much with choreography this year. They took it and ran with it. They did an excellent job," Woodcock said.
All proceeds from the two nights will benefit the Grant Union High School Dance Team 2006-2007 competion season.
