SENECA – Snowmobilers from across Oregon are revving up their engines for the Seneca Winter Classic this weekend, Feb. 16-17.

Organizers say it will be a great way to showcase the excitement of snowmobiling with an event that will be fun for the whole family.

Winter enthusiasts will gather at the track at the Seneca Airport to watch contestants maneuver their high-powered engines on skis, competing for cash prizes. There will be oval and drag events.

The competition begins at 10 a.m. both days. Registration for competitors starts at 8 a.m., with a cost of $45 for the first class and $30 for additional.

Admission for spectators is free. There will be refreshments available from Papa Rod’s Burritos, as well as the Bear Valley Store in Seneca.

The competition is sponsored by local businesses and the Grant County Snowballers, who are expecting a good weekend for the event this year.

“The weather is supposed to be really nice,” said Gregg Haberly, John Day Polaris owner.

With snowfall this year, Haberly is excited to get the races going again after the cancellation last year due to lack of snow.
