JOHN DAY - SolWest Fair again seeks community input regarding the annual three-day event geared toward renewable energy and sustainable living.

In response to last year's feedback, the 2012 fair will focus on traditional skills, new technology and a plentiful life. Popular workshops added last year addressed gardening, small livestock, healthy food and household finances.

The aim is to expand next year's offerings to include even more topics of interest to local people.

One feature already planned is a swap meet of tools and supplies. The swap meet will be open to the public, and held from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Sunday, July 29. Committees are forming to look at ideas for other happenings such as keynote speakers, projects, workshops, vendors and publicity.

The goal is to make the SolWest Fair responsive to community needs, and to let people know that SolWest is an opportunity for education and self-enhancement.

Next year's fair will be Friday-Sunday, July 27-29.

Those wanting to participate on a committee, or who have suggestions, can contact Jennifer Barker at 541-575-3633 or
