GU opening Hall of Fame JOHN DAY - The first Grant Union Hall of Fame Alumni Banquet will be held at 7 p.m. May 13 at the Elks Lodge.

Honorees include former head baseball coach Art Thunell, support staff Jackie McConnell and former players Morgan Bowe, Eric Gilliam, Greg Sharp, Ronnie Brooks and Fred Fell.

Tickets for the steak and crab dinner are $25 apiece and may be obtained by calling Doug Sharp at 541-379-1312 or Mt. Vernon Middle School at 932-4733.

Bowling teams in tieJOHN DAY - Curves, Hunter's Choice and Big D Enterprises are locked in a threeway tie for first place in the Early Mourners Bowling League at the end of play March 15 with records of 22 wins and 14 losses.

The Old Broads at 16-20 hold down fourth place and Sandy's Happy Nails is fifth at 15-21.

In the Ladies Nite Out League, FirstBank with a record of 22 wins and 10 losses is in first place as of March 9 and Old West Federal Credit Union is second at 20.5-11.5.

Third place is held down by Clarks' Kiddie Care with an 18.5-13.5 mark.

Babe Ruth sign-upsJOHN DAY - Sign-ups for the 2006 Babe Ruth baseball season will be held from 6-7:30 p.m April 6 at the Dairy Queen Restaurant.

Players born prior to May 1, 1993 and on or after May 1, 1990 will be eligible to play in the 13-15-year-old competition this season.

The cost to is $35 per player.

First-time players must bring a copy of their birth certificate to the sign-up session.
