HOOD RIVER - State Rep. John Dallum (R-The Dalles) announced Monday, July 16, that he is resigning his House post and moving to Montana to take a new job.

Dallum has accepted the superintendent's post at the Valier School District in Valier, Mont. He plans to move there at the end of July.

"It has been an honor serving as the representative of House District 59 these last two sessions, however, I have a new opportunity I cannot pass up has been offered." Dallum said from his home in The Dalles on Monday.

He said he and his wife, Dorthy, are excited about the opportunity to return to "education at its purest level - a small school district."

Dallum has served two sessions in the District 59 Oregon Legislature, which includes most of Grant County.

The county commissioners in the district will have 30 days to appoint a successor.

"There are so many qualified candidates I am sure that they will have little trouble choosing a good representative," Dallum said.
