BURNS - On Aug. 22 in Burns, 187 people gathered from around the state at the Eastern Oregon Rural Summit to discuss ways to solve problems facing rural Oregon communities. The day-long conference consisted of 12 work groups; transportation, economic development, K-12 education, higher education, finance, housing, agriculture, natural resources, mental health, health, public safety, business and land use. Each work group had a facilitator to keep the group focused on finding solutions.

A first draft of the Eastern Oregon Rural Summit solutions/work plan will be presented at 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Friday, Sept. 12, at John Day Senior Center. Interested members of the community are encouraged to attend. Lunch will be available for $8. RSVP to Michelle Colby at (541) 384-3767 by Sept. 8.
