Whether you’ve got a sweet-tooth, a sweetheart, a “heart”y appetite – or all three – there might be a Valentine’s Day event on tap for you.

Here’s the roundup of activities:

• Third annual daddy-daughter dance: 6-9 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 9, at Grant Union Junior-Senior High School old gym, John Day.

John Day/Canyon City Parks and Recreation presents “The Red Carpet Experience,” for girls in grades K-7 and their dads/dad figures. The cost is $20 per couple for those in the JD/CC district, and $25 for others, which includes a 5x7 photo.

Activities include dancing to DJ music, after-dinner snacks and prize drawings. Registration is limited to the first 200 couples. Forms are at the Parks and Rec office, 845 1/2 Bridge St., John Day, or online at jdccparksandrec.weebly.com. Call 541-575-0110 for information.

• ‘Crab and Blues’ evening: 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 9, John Day Elks Lodge.

The evening includes an all-you-can-eat fresh crab dinner, followed by dancing at 8 p.m., with music by blues legend Jimmy Lloyd Rea and the Switchmasters. Tickets are $30 in advance, or $40 at the door, and available at the lodge or from any Elks officer.

• Valentine dinner: 4-6 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 10, Monument Senior Center.

Proceeds benefit the Monument School students trip to Southeast Asia in spring 2014. Call Desiree Robison, 541-934-2001.

• Sweetheart Appreciation dinner: 6:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 11, at Alec Gay Hall, S.E. Dayton Street, John Day.

Hosted by the Ellis Tracy post and unit of the American Legion and Auxiliary, the dinner will honor the many individuals and groups who assist with community projects.

• Dinner and a movie date night: 5 p.m. Saturday, Feb 16, at Canyon City Community Hall.

The evening includes a no-host bar and raffle ticket sales from 5-5:30 p.m., dinner and basket raffle until 6:45, followed by a PG-13 movie, the 1987 classic fairy tale, “The Princess Bride.”

The dinner, prepared by Cliff House Catering of John Day, includes roast beef, roasted garlic mashed potatoes, green beans with bacon and onions, tossed greens with choice of dressing and apple crisp with vanilla ice cream.

Tickets are $50 per couple, with any two people attending together making up a couple. RSVP or purchase tickets by Friday, Feb. 8, at Families First Parent Resource Center, 401 S. Canyon Blvd., John Day. All proceeds benefit home visitation programs that ensure kindergarten readiness.
