JOHN DAY - The Nature Conservancy of Oregon invites anyone interested in maintaining the Dunstan Homestead Preserve to attend a volunteer work party on Saturday and Sunday, June 28-29.

The Middle Fork of the John Day River runs thorough the Dunstan Preserve, providing spawning habitat for chinook salmon and summer steelhead, and a diverse riparian habitat for many other native plant and animal species.

Volunteers at the event will be building protective enclosures for native cottonwood plantings, maintaining long-term research sites, removing non-native weed species and other assorted tasks.

Participants should bring food, water, camping supplies and appropriate clothing and footwear.

Meals will be provided and attendees may bring a potluck salad or desert for Sunday's barbecue.

Registration for the event is required.

For more information or to register, call Jeff Fields at (541) 421-3037, or Molly Dougherty at (503) 230-1221.
