PORTLAND – First-year wrestler Tucker Wright faced two of the state’s top wrestlers in the 200-pound division when he traveled to Portland last weekend to compete in the OSAA 2A State Championships.

Wright, of Grant Union, was pinned early in the first round as he was matched up against Hosanna Christian’s Shon Moses, the fourth-place finisher in 2012.

Wright moved to the consolation bracket and faced Knappa’s Arashi Pierre, the second-place finisher last year. Pierre pinned Wright at the 2:53 mark in the second round to push Wright out of the state competition.

“Tucker wrestled really well for a first-year wrestler,” said head coach Andy Lusco.

The state tournament wrapped up Grant Union’s season, which featured several first-year wrestlers who are expected to provide a solid foundation for coming years.
