JOHN DAY - OSU Extension Service plans woods tours in John Day and La Grande, to learn more on defoliating insects in the Blue Mountains.

The tours will visit active infestations of the pine butterfly, western spruce budworm, Douglas-fir tussock moth and larch casebearer, and brief mention of other insects.

Instructors include Steve Fitzgerald, OSU Extension fire and silviculture Specialist; Lia Spiegel, Forest Service entomologist; and Rob Flowers, Oregon Department of Forestry entomologist.

Participants will meet briefly at 8:30 a.m. Thursday, July 21, at the ODF office, 415 Patterson Bridge Road in John Day, then head into the field. On Friday, July 22, the tour continues in the La Grande area, with another on-site visit. The tour begins at 8 a.m. at the Extension office, 10507 N. McAlister Rd., Island City, and finishes by noon.
