Track project on track at GUHS

Grant School District No. 3 Superintendent Mark Witty discusses the progress of the Three Flags athletic track and field with Lance Woodcock of Iron Triangle June 29.

Workers have been moving soil and breaking apart the damaged Grant Union Junior-Senior High School track in preparation for construction of an 8-lane track.

Much of the work so far has been done with donated manhours coming from Kelsey Wright, John Rowell, and others. Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife employees contributed manpower and equipment. Equipment also came from Blue?Mountain Custom Homes, Scott Moore, and Malhuer Lumber Co.

The Rebuild the GU Track Committee will meet Thursday, July 19, to replace the cinder block wall at the south end of the athletic field.

Once that work is done, Tidewater Construction is expected to start as early as next week, packing gravel and laying pavement for the track.
