BOARDMAN - He did it again.

Just as he did last year, Mt. Vernon Middle School eighth-grader Caleb Batease took first place last weekend in the 195-pound weight class at Eastern Oregon regional wrestling finals.

Batease, 14, was among a cadre of wrestlers from his school to compete there.

He will go on to compete at State Wrestling Finals for the middle school level this Saturday, March 13, at Woodburn. Batease placed fifth there last year.

Also qualifying for state for the first time, eighth-grader Kaleb Adams, at 85 pounds, finished in fourth place. He lost in the quarter-finals but then battled back to take fourth.

"All wrestlers performed well at Boardman," said coach Cindy Dougharity.

John "Bo" Cook lost in the semi-finals. He and Randel Smith both wrestled at 90 pounds.

They joined teammates Antonio Dancer (110 pounds), Kyle Cook (117 pounds), all of whom met opponents on the mat from Hood River, Pendleton, Milton-Freewater, Riverside, Irrigon, La Grande, Crook County, Hermiston, The Dalles, Heppner, Baker, North Powder, Nyssa and Ontario.
