Vernon "Vern" Z. Jacobson, 85, died Nov. 18 in Baker City.

A memorial service was held Nov. 20 with Pastor Susan Barnes of the First Presbyterian Church officiating. A graveside inurnment will be held in the spring at the Prairie City Cemetery.

Mr. Jacobson was born June 16, 1919, in Alder, Wash., to Arnt and Elizabeth Jacobson. He spent his young life in Washington before serving in the U.S. Army as a captain in the Second armored division during WWII.

He graduated from the University of Washington with degrees in engineering and mineralogy and spent his professional life as a mining and civil engineer. He was employed at the City of Baker as City Engineer and City Manager until his retirement.

Survivors include one son, Gary Jacobson of Tulelake, Calif.; two daughters Pat Baglien of Wieser, Idaho and Carol Tanaka of Seattle, Wash.; one sister Norma Norris of Kingston, Wash.; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Lela Anne (French) Jacobson and one brother.
