Voigt awarded Nike Golf Scholarship

JOHN DAY - Junior Yazzie Voigt from Prairie City High School has been awarded a scholarship by the John Day Golf Course to attend a Nike Junior Golf Camp at Concordia University in Portland this summer.

The camp is for five days and four nights, instructed by the Concordia University golf coach and staff.

Voigt will stay on campus during the camp and will travel to nearby Heron Lakes and Broadmoor Golf Clubs for instruction and play.

Voigt is the only golfer on the Prairie City team and finished third at the Class 2A/1A district tournament played in May at the Wildhorse Resort in Mission. From there he advanced to the state tournament.

This is the first time such a scholarship has been offered at the John Day Golf Club.

Mike Walker from the John Day Golf Club said in the future, any young person who shows significant interest and dedication to golf may have the opportunity to attend such a camp.
