JOHN DAY - Make a Difference Day will be celebrated nationwide Saturday, Oct. 23.

People are encouraged to choose a project to improve their neighborhood on a personal level or join a larger group project.

Local AmeriCorps members are getting involved by inviting the community to a cleanup day from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the John Day Community Garden at the Third Street Extension past the rodeo grounds.

Volunteers can help weed and fertilize the garden, covering the beds for winter.

A community potluck at noon will feature fall-themed food and you don't have to volunteer to join the potluck.

The Grant Union High School FFA chapter will sponsor kids activities throughout the day with pumpkin decorating, harvest photo corner and a birdhouse activity.
