Heavy rain and warmer temperatures turned lowlands and wetlands into water features across Grant County last weekend. Above waterfowl take flight from a pond – really a flooded pasture – in the John Day Valley west of Mt. Vernon. 

Thick slabs of ice were left stranded on the bank above the still high water level.

County and state highway crews were busy Sunday and Monday dealing with blocked culverts and flooded roadways.
