JOHN DAY – Forest Supervisor, Steve Beverlin, has implemented an area closure, effective immediately, for the West Fork Fire, which is located on the north slope of the Aldrich Mountain range within the old fire scar from the 2006 Shake Table Complex (Thorn Fire), 10 miles southeast of Dayville.
Recent rains and cool weather have assisted in minimal fire activity. At the same time, wet conditions have delayed the repair work on the contingency lines. As conditions allow, fire crews will continue to mop up along the fire lines and patrol the area.
At present the fire poses no immediate threat, but as seasonal weather returns and unburned fuels between the fire and the containment lines dry, the fire will be monitored closely. The area closure will ensure firefighter and public safety in the hazardous burn area.
This closure will affect a small portion of the north slope of the Aldrich Mountain range, including Sections 4, 5, 8, 9, 17 (portion north of FR 2150), and 16 (portion north of FR 2150) of Township 14S and Range 28E.
The official Area Closure Order and map will be available at: http://www.fs.usda.gov/malheur/.
