CRANE – Grant Union’s Tucker Wright advances to state after the Prospectors put in a strong showing at the 2A/1A District Tournament, held Feb. 16 in Crane.

Wright’s dominant performance set up a match with teammate Kyle Carpenter, competing for the 220-pound state seed. Suffering from multiple injuries, Carpenter elected to have Wright fill the second-place spot without a match.

Only the top two in each division move on to state.

Carpenter did claim third place in the 220-pound division, as he outlasted Cain Stellings and Brandon Teem, both from Imbler.

David DesJardin left his mark with district fans as he placed third in the 170-pound division, twisting his way past Cole Snyder of Irrigon and outpositioning Daniel McGuire of Elgin.

Trevor Brown, weighing in at 195 pounds, battled his way past Cole Campbell from Imbler and Tayler Tandy of Imbler, to win third in his category.

Amid solid performances from many Grant Union wrestlers, Justin Gravley added to the streak.  With a loss in a close match at 152 pounds, Gravely secured fourth place.

Antonio Dancer, Lane Woodcock and heavyweight Charlie Wolf added to the Prospectors’ performances, wrapping up a successful regular season.

Wright returns to action at the 2A/1A State Wrestling Championships this Friday and Saturday, Feb. 22-23, at Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Portland.  He is set the wrestle Shon Moses of Hosanna Christian.
