Charles Robert Hyder, 88, of Mt. Vernon, died Aug. 14 at Blue Mountain Care Center in Prairie City. A graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 20, at the Canyon City Cemetery.

Mr. Hyder was born Feb. 21, 1927, in Elizabethton, Tenn., to Cecil Hyder and Amanda Nydifer.

In 1948, he married Kristina May Holmberg in John Day.

He worked many different jobs, but all within the lumber, timber and construction industry, with Edward Hines and Cates logging companies.

He enjoyed hunting and fishing, and raising his family.

Survivors include his sons, Eddy Hyder and Alvin Hyder, both of Mt. Vernon; five grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Kristina May Hyder; son, Ronald Bl Hyder; and daughter-in-law, Carroll B. Hyder.
