PENDLETON – The Grant Union golf team competed at the Pendleton Country Club Invitational last Friday.

The Prospector team of four competed with 11 other teams with more than 110 boys and girls – on the par 72 championship course.

Grant Union’s Nathan Gehley finished with a 93, Matt Broemeling 99, Duane Stokes 107, and Chance Barrietua 129.

Low medalist was Logan Grieb of Heppner with an 83, followed by Tiya-Po Farrow of Nixyaawii with 83 and John Propheter of Heppner and Karl Wellens of Wallowa both at 89.

Heppner swung for first place with a 368, Wallowa 381, Nixyaawii 393, Enterprise 412, Nyssa 413, Vale 422, Grant Union 428, Burns 448, Echo 475 and Imbler 478.

“This was our first team event of the season, and the first for two of the boys on the team,” said Grant Union head coach Ron Lundbom. “The course was tough and the wind blew – the boys struggled on a couple of holes.”

The previous week two Grant Union golfers Broemeling (97) and Stokes (105) were at the Heppner Invitational in Echo, competing with 40 other boys and girls.

Grant Union heads to Pendleton’s Wildhorse Resort and Casino golf course for the Pendleton Invitation Friday at 9 a.m.

“I know the team wants to score better there,” he said.
