JOHN DAY – Grant Union got warmed up with their first game of the season last Friday against the Crane Mustangs.

The Prospectors grabbed a 3-0 win with scores of 25-20, 25-14 and 25-15.

“We started a bit slow and had some jitters that got worked out after the first set,” said Prospector head coach Shae Speth. “It can be tough playing our first game of the season in front of our home crowd – the girls are nervous and want to come out strong for their fans.”

The Mustangs are coached by Mandi McDowell.

Speth noted the game gave her the opportunity to try a few different lineups.

She was especially impressed with freshman Mariah Moulton.

“Mariah had a strong start to her high school career with seven kills on 13 attacks, and five aces on 12 serves,” Speth said.

“It was just a good first game to get a feel for where we’re at and what we need to focus on first,” she said.

More Grant Union stats:

Heather Mosley: 6 kills.

Kori Pentzer: 5 kills, 3 aces, 13 digs (team high).

Rheanna Cartner: 13 set assists.
