Winter sports teams prepare for first games of the season

Sports fans, mark your calendars!

Local varsity sports teams have started winter practice this week, preparing for their first competitions and events of the season.

The Prairie City Panther girls basketball team, led by head coach Bo Workman, will start their season facing the Joseph Eagles at 6 p.m. Friday, Nov. 30, in Joseph. For their first home game, the Lady Panthers will host the Imbler Panthers at 4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 15.

The Prairie City Panthers boys basketball team, led by head coach Sam Workman, will face the Joseph Eagles on the road for their first game of the season at 7:30 p.m., Friday, Nov. 30, in Joseph. The Panthers will host Horizon Christian for their first home game of the season at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 14. The boys also host Imbler at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 15.

Grant Union’s Prospector girls basketball team, led by head coach Kristi Moore, will be on the road Wednesday, Nov. 28, to face the Hilanders in Burns with game time at 6 p.m. For their first home game, the Lady Prospectors will host the Crane Mustangs at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 11, and they’ll host Burns at 6 p.m. Friday, Dec. 14.

The Grant Union Prospector boys basketball team, with head coach Kelsy Wright, will face Burns at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 28, in Burns. The boys host Crane at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 11, and Burns at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 14.

The Grant Union Prospector wrestlers, led by head coach Andy Lusco, travel to Burns for the Woodfin Tournament on Friday, Nov. 30, the competition starting at 1 p.m. Grant Union hosts a home tournament at 12 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 25.

The Grant Union Gold dance team, which has been practicing since September, will hold their annual Holiday Showcase at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 6 and Friday, Dec. 7, at the Grant Union old gym. The head coach is Kattie Piazza.

The Dayville/Monument Tiger girls basketball team, led by head coach Taylor Schmadeka, will travel to the Paul Humphreys Tournament at Wheeler High School in Fossil for their first games of the season. They will first face Arlington at 3 p.m. Friday, Nov. 30. The Tiger girls host the Burnt River Bulls at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 8, for their first home game in Dayville.

The Dayville/Monument Tiger boys basketball team, led by head coach Jeff Schafer, will travel to the Paul Humphreys Tournament and start their season facing Arlington at 4:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 30, in Fossil. The Tigers host Burnt River at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 8, for their first home game in Dayville.
